Sleep Men vs. Women

Have you noticed that women tend to be a little more grumpy then most men in the morning?  That’s because women actually need more sleep than men.  Woman have a higher risk of depression and sleeping disorders.  “Sleep deprived women have extra clotting factors in their blood, which can lead to stroke,” said this article done at Duke University.  It is believed that an average person needs 7-9 hours of sleep a night and the largest factor that effects the amount of sleep one needs is age, the Mayo Clinic stated on their sleep studies done.  The older you get the less sleep you tend to need because newborns and young children need more sleep to help with their development. Their immune systems are weaker so rest helps keep them healthy. Another factor that largely affects the hours of sleep necessary throughout a night is drinking alcohol.  Drinking before bed negatively affects your sleep.  Which makes you need to sleep more hours to make up for the inadequate sleep throughout the night.

Sleep Men vs. Women and drinking

After a night out at Michigan State University the next morning it seems that men are up and ready for their day more often then women.  “I only need like nine hours of sleep tops,” said Mike Raterink a Senior student at MSU.  It seems in the morning at his house the guys are up and ready to either drink another beer or even get some work done.  It is a little different scene at a house full of girls.  “Girls I live with don’t seem to wake up until anytime between noon and five pm.  The house is dead before then,” said Ashley Mlynarek a Junior student.  Girls tend to feel symptoms of a hangover for longer just like they feel more drunk faster then men due to the lack of an enzyme that breaks down alcohol in their bloodstream.  Students were actually surprised when told that drinking before bed negatively effects the quality of the sleep they have.  Most believed they felt better rest due to the speed in which they fall asleep.
